Editorial & Documentary Wedding Photography in Italy
Planning a wedding in Florence?
Planning a wedding in Florence is about more than choosing a beautiful location. It is about bringing together architecture, atmosphere, history and the people who matter most to you, creating a celebration that feels entirely your own.
I am Silia Eleftheriadou, an editorial and documentary wedding photographer working with couples planning destination weddings in Florence and throughout Tuscany.
My approach to photography has developed over more than a decade of working across fashion, hospitality, architecture, travel and weddings. This background has shaped the way I see light, composition, details and people. It has also taught me that beautiful photography does not need to feel overly arranged or disconnected from the experience itself.
I combine an editorial eye with a documentary approach, creating photographs that are visually refined while leaving room for the spontaneous moments that make every wedding different.
Florence offers an extraordinary setting for this kind of photography. From historic palazzos and Renaissance architecture to private villas overlooking the Tuscan countryside, the city and its surroundings offer an incredible variety of settings for a wedding celebration.
Whether you are planning an intimate wedding in Florence, a celebration at a historic estate in Chianti or a multi-day destination wedding in Tuscany, my intention is to create a visual story that brings together the atmosphere of the place, the beauty of the occasion and the genuine interactions between the people sharing it with you.
If you are looking for a Florence wedding photographer with an editorial perspective, an international photography background and a personal approach to documenting weddings, I would love to hear about your plans.
An Editorial Approach to Wedding Photography in Florence
Editorial wedding photography is about more than creating beautiful portraits. It is about seeing the wedding as a whole: the architecture, the surroundings, the atmosphere, the styling, the small details and, above all, the people.
My background in fashion and luxury hospitality has influenced the way I approach a wedding. I pay particular attention to composition, natural light, textures, colours and the relationship between people and their surroundings.
Florence is particularly inspiring in this respect. Its historic buildings, elegant interiors, stone streets, gardens and Tuscan landscapes provide an extraordinary visual setting. I enjoy working with these elements without allowing them to overpower the story of the wedding itself.
I also believe that photographs should remain personal. I do not want every wedding to look like a reproduction of another. The location may be the same, but the people, the atmosphere and the moments are always different.
During portraits, I offer gentle direction when needed, helping couples feel comfortable and allowing the photographs to develop naturally. I am interested in creating images that have an editorial quality without making the experience feel like a fashion production.
The result is a collection of photographs that brings together elegance, atmosphere and genuine human moments.
Documentary Wedding Photography: The Moments You Cannot Plan
Some of the most meaningful photographs from a wedding are rarely the ones that have been planned in advance.
A parent’s expression during the ceremony, a spontaneous embrace between friends, the laughter around the dinner table, or a quiet moment between two people when nobody else is watching. These are the moments that give a wedding its personality.
My documentary approach means paying attention to what is happening rather than constantly directing it. I observe, anticipate and photograph the interactions as they unfold, without unnecessarily interrupting the experience.
This does not mean that everything is left to chance. A wedding day also benefits from thoughtful timing, an understanding of light and a photographer who knows when to offer direction and when to step back.
I aim for a balance between the two: beautifully composed portraits and carefully observed moments, with enough space for the day to unfold naturally.
My editing is guided by natural colour, balanced tones and a timeless aesthetic. I prefer photographs that retain the atmosphere of the original scene rather than relying on heavy filters or fashionable colour treatments. I also work with analog film alongside digital photography on selected projects, bringing another dimension to the visual story.
Ultimately, I want the photographs to feel connected to the actual experience, rather than to a particular photographic trend.

Our clients are couples who appreciate the finer things in life and seek more than just ordinary wedding pictures. You want a photographer who understands that your wedding day is a deeply personal and emotional experience, and you want those feelings captured authentically and beautifully. We know that planning a destination wedding can be overwhelming, and that’s why we guide you every step of the way, from recommending the most breathtaking venues to helping you feel relaxed and radiant in front of the camera.
Destination Wedding Photography in Florence and Tuscany
Florence is one of Italy’s most distinctive wedding destinations. Couples travel from all over the world to celebrate here, drawn by its history, architecture, art, food and the extraordinary landscapes surrounding the city.
For destination weddings, the setting often extends well beyond Florence itself. A wedding might begin with an intimate ceremony in a historic building, continue with portraits overlooking the city and finish with a dinner among the vineyards of the Tuscan countryside.
I work with couples planning weddings and elopements in Florence and throughout the surrounding region, including:
- Florence: Historic palazzos, elegant hotels, private gardens and beautiful architectural settings within the city.
- Fiesole: Hilltop villas and panoramic views overlooking Florence, particularly beautiful for intimate celebrations.
- Chianti: Vineyards, olive groves, historic estates and countryside villas surrounded by the Tuscan landscape.
- Impruneta: Traditional Tuscan architecture, countryside estates and peaceful settings just outside Florence.
- Bagno a Ripoli: Private villas, gardens and countryside locations south of the city.
- Settignano: A picturesque hillside setting with beautiful views and a quieter atmosphere.
- Greve in Chianti: Historic surroundings, vineyards and country estates for weddings that embrace the character of Tuscany.
I am also available for destination weddings elsewhere in Italy and Europe. If you have chosen a location outside Florence, you are welcome to get in touch.
Wedding Venues in Florence and the Tuscan Countryside
Choosing a wedding venue is one of the most important decisions when planning a destination wedding in Italy. The setting influences the atmosphere of the celebration, the experience of your guests and, of course, the possibilities for wedding photography.
Florence and the surrounding Tuscan countryside offer an extraordinary variety of locations, from historic Renaissance villas and elegant hotels to private country estates surrounded by gardens, vineyards and olive groves.
For couples considering a wedding in Florence or Tuscany, here are a few beautiful locations worth exploring.
Villa Cora, Florence
Villa Cora is a historic five-star hotel located just outside Florence’s historic centre, surrounded by a private park. Its elegant interiors, distinctive architecture and gardens create a setting that combines the character of a historic Florentine residence with the comfort of a luxury hotel.
The venue offers dedicated wedding services, with possibilities for both intimate celebrations and larger occasions. Its interiors and outdoor spaces provide different photographic settings, allowing the atmosphere of the residence to become part of the wedding story.
Villa Medicea di Lilliano, Grassina
Located in the hills south of Florence, Villa Medicea di Lilliano is a historic estate surrounded by vineyards and olive groves in the Chianti countryside.
The property combines historic architecture, gardens and expansive outdoor spaces, offering a beautiful setting for destination weddings and multi-day celebrations. The estate also offers accommodation, making it particularly interesting for couples who would like to bring their guests together for more than just the wedding day.
For photography, the surrounding Tuscan landscape, historic buildings and gardens offer a variety of possibilities throughout the day, particularly during the softer light of the late afternoon and evening.
Villa San Michele, Fiesole
Set in the hills of Fiesole, Villa San Michele is one of the distinctive historic properties overlooking Florence. Surrounded by greenery, the property combines Renaissance architecture with panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscape.
Its elevated position and historic character make it an interesting choice for couples looking for an elegant destination wedding outside the busy city centre.
The gardens and views also offer beautiful opportunities for portraits, particularly when the light softens towards sunset.
Borgo I Vicelli, Bagno a Ripoli
For couples who prefer the atmosphere of the Tuscan countryside, Borgo I Vicelli is a country resort located in Bagno a Ripoli, between Florence and the Chianti area.
The property combines historic architecture, cottages, gardens and outdoor spaces, surrounded by olive groves and woodland. It offers a more relaxed countryside setting while remaining within reach of Florence.
It is an interesting option for couples who want to create a destination wedding experience where guests can enjoy the surroundings and spend time together beyond the wedding celebration itself.

Choosing the Right Setting for Your Wedding Photography
Every wedding venue has its own character, architecture and natural light. When planning the photography, I consider how the different spaces can be used throughout the day, from the ceremony and couple portraits to the reception and evening celebrations.
The best photographs do not necessarily require the most elaborate setting. What matters is understanding the location, making thoughtful use of the available light and allowing the atmosphere of the day to unfold naturally.
Whether you are celebrating in a historic Florentine villa or surrounded by the vineyards of the Tuscan countryside, the location becomes an important part of your wedding story.

Planning Your Wedding Photography in Florence: Light, Timing and Location
One of the advantages of working with a photographer who pays close attention to light and composition is that the photography can be planned around the actual conditions of the day.
Florence is beautiful throughout the year, but each season brings different characteristics.
Spring: April, May and early June offer pleasant temperatures, gardens coming into bloom and generally softer conditions for outdoor photography. This is a wonderful time for couples planning an outdoor celebration.
Summer: July and August bring long days and warm evenings. However, the midday sun can be particularly strong in Tuscany. I generally recommend allowing time for portraits later in the afternoon or closer to sunset, when the light becomes more flattering.
Autumn: September and October are particularly attractive for destination weddings. The temperatures are often more comfortable, and the surrounding countryside takes on beautiful seasonal colours.
Winter: Florence has a different atmosphere during the colder months. Historic interiors, elegant hotels and the quieter streets of the city can provide a wonderful setting for intimate weddings and elopements.
Making the Most of Your Wedding-Day Schedule
A little planning can make a considerable difference to the photographs.
Rather than trying to fit all portraits into a short window between the ceremony and dinner, I prefer to discuss the wedding schedule in advance. We can identify the best opportunities for portraits, consider the direction of the light and make use of the surroundings without taking you away from your guests for too long.
If your venue has beautiful gardens, terraces or architectural details, we can incorporate these into the photography naturally.
For destination weddings, I also recommend considering a separate couple’s session before or after the wedding day. It gives us more time to explore Florence or the Tuscan countryside without the time constraints of the celebration itself.
About Silia Eleftheriadou
My photography career began in 2013, initially through travel, architecture, hotels and visual storytelling. Over the years, my work expanded into fashion, hospitality, editorial photography and, eventually, weddings, elopements and intimate celebrations.
Working across these different fields has influenced the way I approach photography today. I have always been interested in the relationship between people, places, light and atmosphere.
My work has been associated with internationally recognised names and publications, including Chanel, FENDI, Tiffany & Co., Dolce & Gabbana, Estée Lauder, Sézane and Nespresso, as well as luxury hotels and international hospitality brands.
One particularly meaningful milestone was having one of my photographs from the 2016 Chanel fashion show at the Grand Palais in Paris featured in the book Les Décors de CHANEL.
These experiences have shaped my visual perspective, but wedding photography is a particularly personal part of my work. Every celebration brings together a different group of people, a different story and a different atmosphere.
I approach each wedding with the same attention to detail and commitment that I bring to my other photography projects. Once I commit to a date, I dedicate myself fully to the experience and to creating a collection of photographs that reflects the occasion.
I believe the best wedding photographs are not simply technically beautiful. They have personality, atmosphere and meaning, and they become more valuable as the years pass.
